I haven't always been excited about celebrating Halloween. It seems like a commercial holiday with dubious ethical origins. However, with a toddler who says 'zoom, zoom' as he runs in his Lightning McQueen costume, the holiday seems like a fun flight in fantasy that enriches the education of my young child. My kid is going to grow up playing Magic the Gathering and already pretends to be a dragon, so what harm is carving pumpkins and dressing up as a car on a night we pray at dinner and before bedtime? My vote - right now there is no harm. As a heads up though, Eli will be eating very little of the candy he gets and there is a good chance mean old mommy throws a lot of it away. Explaining the traditions to Eli has been fun though, and here are some pictures to prove it:
